Film Review // Baby Driver

So a few days ago I watched Baby Driver in the cinema. I’d been pretty hyped about it for a while, being a massive fan of Edgar Wright’s other films, but I only got to see the film over two weeks after release because of work and other rather dull things. You know how it is.

Anyway. In short: I loved it. It was really really great. You should go see it. There’s so many reasons why that if i listed them all we’d be here all day; instead, I’m gonna focus on a few things that I think make this film really stand out.

Thoughts on Okja

A couple of days ago I watched a film on Netflix called Okja. A couple of days before that, I thought about this blog and how I’ve just left it drifting in the abyss, unloved and forgotten, gathering little speckles of dust until it can no longer even be found. But don’t worry! I will reel in this blog and its five short posts, dust it off and send it back into the world, looking only a little worse for wear.

So, Okja could help me make a perfect reintroduction. Released last month after a promotional and awards campaign that was not short of controversy due to Netflix’s involvement, it is now considered a critically appreciated, if not quite acclaimed, addition to director Bong Joon-Ho’s body of work that includes The Host and Snowpiercer.

A Vegan Fair

I meant to write this post a couple of days ago but I’ve been super super busy, yanno?

Anyhow, as the title may suggest I went to a vegan fair. Not my first vegan fair, but my first as one of them. It’s nice to feel part of the gang now!

On Saturday (also the day I finally took the plunge and went fully vegan if you haven’t read this post yet) we went to the Viva! Vegan Fair which took place at the Old Friends Quaker Meeting House in Liverpool city centre.

I didn’t get to spend much of the day there as I had work in the afternoon, but Kiah and I were determined to make the most of it. We met lots of lovely people and Kiah got to talk about why pigs are the best of course – but that wasn’t the my favourite bit. This was:

A Fresh Start

So yesterday I decided to become vegan. My wonderful girlfriend Kiah has been vegan for about 6 months now and if there’s one thing I’ve learned from her experience, it’s that it is definitely not just a change in diet; it’s a completely different lifestyle. You have to be so aware of what’s in everything you consume, and for me it’s a pretty daunting prospect. I think maybe that’s why it took me until now to turn vegan, having been vegetarian for around a year.
